History / Style/ Influences

SOUND RELIGION is an upcoming Montreal band formed in 2014 by multi-faceted musicians from the Caribbean, South America and Canada. Sound Religion is a self-produced band which is promoted by Revival Tones Records, a recording label dedicated to the promotion of Reggae and Ska music in Quebec.

The band was originally formed by Alexis Garcia, local bass player and producer, and Winston Evans, a legendary reggae performer from the Little Burgundy Area. Together they put together the album ‘Love Regeneration’; an album that was inspired in experiences both on the stage and off the stage.

Since the production of the album ‘Love Regeneration’ the band has integrated members who have added their own styles to make this a must-see live band with a fusion of contemporary rhythms that together bring out the unique nature of this reggae music.

Sound Religion  proposes an innovative musical collective, seamlessly blending evocative sounds with deeply introspective lyrics. Rooted in themes of love, spirituality, and the human condition, the band creates a distinctive blend of soulful melodies, electronic elements, roots reggae, hip hop, and rock, that resonate profoundly with many audiences, which is reflected in their latest album, "Ministry of Love",

With tracks like "Love Currency," "Atomic Love," and "Prodigal Son," the band delves into topics that explore the complexities of relationships and self-discovery in humorous manner. Their ability to weave narrative depth into catchy, experimental tunes has set them apart as a rising spiritual and creative force in the Canadian indie music scene. Their music speaks to a generation seeking meaning in a chaotic world, drawing inspiration from both spiritual traditions and contemporary struggles. Their latest project, Ministry of Love, exemplifies their commitment to musical evolution and spiritual
exploration.

From their studio in Montreal, Alexis and John continue to craft compositions that reflect their motto, “Feel Uplifted Now” (FUN). Their collaborations with local artists for live performances have enriched their sound, and their current partnership with Sam Ripat —a recent graduate of McGill's School of Music— injects a dynamic blend of youth and technical expertise, helping the band connect with newer generations.

As they prepare to launch their EP and new body of work, Sound Religion is poised to make a significant impact on the international music scene, fulfilling their mission to engage multiple audiences through powerful messages and unforgettable soundscapes.

Sound Religion performs music with rhythm and energy. Our style can be described as Fusion Reggae with influences from the Caribbean and South America. Our influences go back to 1970’s and 1980’s with bands such as Alpha Blondy, Black Uru, Eddy Grant, Dennis Brown, Pink Floyd, The Doors, among others. Our music is also influenced from Motown styles and we fusion them with psychodelic sounds of organs. Together with reverbs and delays, this music is set to blow your mind!
